BRWN-001008 - Understanding Adolescent Eating Disorders: Foundations in Family-Based Treatment (FBT)
Preferred registration deadline: January 9th
3 CEs
Eating disorders are complex illnesses that affect adolescents with increasing frequency. This interactive workshop will equip mental health professionals with an evidence-based foundation for assessing and understanding eating disorders in adolescents, with an emphasis on Family-Based Treatment (FBT), widely recognized as the gold standard of care. Participants will explore the prevalence, clinical presentation, and medical and psychological risks associated with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).
The session introduces the core principles and theoretical framework of FBT, including its three treatment phases, the therapist’s role, and the critical involvement of parents in the recovery process. Discussion will also highlight common barriers to care and factors that influence treatment outcomes. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a solid foundation for integrating FBT concepts into clinical practice and supporting adolescents and families navigating eating disorders.
This is an interactive synchronous distance learning course via Zoom.
