Couples therapy can support partners in navigating challenges in their relationship and increase emotional and romantic intimacy. Whether a couple is seeking therapy for ineffective communication, emotional disconnection, infidelity and betrayal, sexual concerns, or any other number of common relationship stressors and problematic relational dynamics, this workshop will provide an introductory foundation for therapists to structure their treatment effectively. Participants will be exposed to a general overview of theories and key frameworks for assessment, conceptualization, and intervention. Specific attention will be given to attachment theory as a lens through which to approach treatment. Additionally, participants will learn intervention tools and techniques that can facilitate emotional regulation, vulnerability, curiosity, and overall effective communication between partners.

Participants will learn skills to build therapeutic rapport with each partner and help clients clarify and work toward their unique goals of emotional and romantic intimacy. Participants will also explore ethical considerations, including secrets, bias, and countertransference, as they may impact the course of couples therapy.  By the end of the training, participants will feel more confident in identifying the underlying causes of relationship distress and applying practical techniques to support couples in building a more secure relationship.

This is an interactive synchronous distance learning course via Zoom.
