BRWN-00094 - Burnout in Early Career Helping Professionals: Using CE-CERT to Promote a Sustainable Career
Preferred registration deadline: October 3rd
3 CEs
Burnout and secondary traumatic stress are common hazards for those working in the helping professions. Additionally, new graduates and professionals early in their careers are at a unique risk for some of these adverse responses. It is imperative that professionals have information to recognize burnout and secondary traumatic stress, as well as tools to address them to promote career longevity. Often, strategies for managing work stress and well-being are relegated to personal time after hours, which adds to the time burden outside work and leaves professionals ill-equipped to manage stress in real time during the workday.
This workshop will review the symptoms and key features of burnout and secondary traumatic stress, particularly among early-career helping professionals. Additionally, we will consider the implications on self, clients, organizations, and communities of not proactively promoting sustainable careers. Participants will learn the components of the CE-CERT model (Components for Enhancing Clinician Engagement and Reducing Trauma) and identify strategies for engaging with the model components, which are designed to be utilized during the work day. Time will be devoted to participants developing a personal plan for implementing the model in their daily professional lives.
This is an interactive synchronous distance learning course via Zoom.
