On April 9, 2025, Colson Whitehead will visit St. Louis to receive the St. Louis Literary Award. This course will explore his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Underground Railroad (2016) through a book club format. Over four sessions, participants will delve into the novel's themes and world, uncovering its depth and artistry together. For the First session, participants should read the "Ajarry" and "Georgia" sections (pages 3-71). Please bring a journal to class. Required Text: The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead.
