Autocracy: What is it? Why does it arise? Where does it thrive? How can it be prevented from undermining democracy in the United States? This course explores these questions by examining the works of leading scholars on autocracy, including Yale professor Tim Snyder and journalist Anne Applebaum of The Atlantic. Through a combination of historical analysis and current events, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the threats to constitutional democracy and develop informed strategies for political action. These strategies will be informed by presentations from Missouri politicians.
