This course offers an engaging exploration of topics in math and science through recent articles from Scientific American (SA) magazine, focusing on principles underlying important advancements. Participants will adopt a "shared responsibility" format, selecting articles, expanding on them with their insights and experiences, and leading a 1-hour or 2-hour discussion to deepen understanding of the material. Presentations may also feature guest speakers from outside organizations. Previous guest presentations have been made by the Nature Conservancy, the Danforth Center, and the Corps of Engineers. Access to Scientific American is essential for this course. Digital subscriptions, including archives dating back to 1849, are available for $27.30 per year. Print subscriptions, which also include digital access, start at $55.30 per year.
