Over eight weeks, participants will watch and discuss seven impactful films that dramatize the Irish quest for freedom. Supplementary brief readings and background information will be provided to enrich understanding and enjoyment of the films. Films watched in this course will include The Field, Michael Collins, The Wind That Shakes the Barley, The Crying Game, Bloody Sunday, In the Name of the Father, and Some Mother’s Son. Supplementary readings include works by Lady Gregory, W.B. Yeats, Frank O’Connor, and Liam O’Flaherty.
