As with pop music, poetry often provides a few jigsaw pieces, which readers are invited to use to fabricate the rest of the puzzle. The poet Mary Jo Bang will demonstrate how that process works, for the poet and for the reader, by using the 1967 Procol Harum song "A Whiter Shade of Pale," her own poems and recent knowledge gained from neuroscience.
