Preferred registration deadline: May 2nd
3 CEs
Mental health professionals who work with clients are often impacted by trauma and addiction-related disorders. This course delves into the intricate relationship between trauma and addiction, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of how these two issues intersect and influence each other. Participants will learn to integrate assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning practices that consider the complex interplay between addiction and trauma. We will explore the physiological processes associated with trauma, shedding light on their evolutionary origins and the impact of biological responses linked to addiction. This knowledge will help professionals understand the underlying mechanisms that drive addictive behaviors in trauma survivors.
Participants will also gain insights into typical responses to traumatic events and how addictive and compulsive behaviors develop as coping mechanisms. The course will demonstrate how these behaviors serve as both a response to and a treatment for trauma, equipping professionals with strategies to support their clients in breaking these cycles. By the end of this workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between trauma and addiction, enabling them to provide more effective and empathetic care to their clients.
