This workshop will be conducted in a virtual Zoom meeting format.

The DSM estimates that as many as 1% of school-aged children are diagnosed with Selective Mutism. Community-wide, 1% of school-aged kids can mean hundreds and hundreds of kids. Because parents, teachers, and healthcare professionals tend to be untrained in SM-specific assessment and treatment, those hundreds of kids often go misdiagnosed or without effective support.

In this workshop, participants will walk away with a detailed understanding of SM, its etiology, and how it presents in children and adolescents. We will have opportunities to practice assessment and differential diagnosis skills, learn about treatment approaches for kids with SM, and practice treatment strategies for therapeutic clients with SM. Participants will familiarize themselves with assessment strategies by way of mini-case studies, and best-practice treatment strategies during role-plays and within-workshop activities.

General Admission: $60**

Class size is limited to 50.

**Discounts on workshop admission are offered to the Brown School’s students, alumni, and field instructors. We also offer a discount to full-time graduate students in other WU programs and to our Washington University faculty/staff colleagues. No other discounts are available. Admission discounts can be selected in the checkout process.
