This workshop will cover practical skills for psychotherapy with individuals dealing with dementia. We will discuss different types of dementia, cognitive challenges, and functional impairments, using case studies of real-world client experiences. Emphasizing person-centered care, learn to integrate individual preferences and life histories into your therapeutic approaches.

A significant part of the course is dedicated to behavioral interventions, emphasizing ways to foster positive engagement and manage challenging behaviors. Cultural humility is a key theme throughout, ensuring sensitivity to diverse experiences of dementia. We'll also delve into family and caregiver support, offering insights into how to meaningfully involve and educate those supporting individuals with dementia.

This class meets the IL requirement of at least 1 hour of continuing education on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

Class size is limited to 45.
