This course introduces participants to the use of system dynamics for advancing equity. Participants will explore an equity or liberation issue of their choice through the lens of system dynamics to identify feedback structures that sustain oppression. Participants will begin to explore how systems thinking fits with longstanding traditions of liberation and resistance, how and why system structure creates oppressive realities and disparate patterns over time, and the key role of mental models in oppression and liberation. Participants will be introduced to causal loop diagramming, reference modes, and how to use these tools to advance equity in a topic area of the participant's choice.

Note: This course requires short pre-work readings and a reflection assignment before the first class meeting. This course meets the Missouri & Illinois social work licensure requirement for 3 hours of continuing education in diversity/cultural competency/humility.

Class size is limited to 25.
