This course will be held in person at the Brown School with asynchronous work in Canvas/WUEx. Access to a computer/laptop with internet access is required.

This course will focus on the basic skill sets important to the effective management of people and teams. The framework includes working toward and implementing a trauma-informed management style and moving organizations toward trauma-informed practice. The skills highlighted include building a strong organizational culture, selecting job applicants, motivating and supporting people, measuring work performance, and leading teams. Participants will use course readings to understand the theoretical context for organizational behavior and management. Students will analyze and apply theory to practice using case studies representative of situations encountered by social service managers.

Class size is limited to 25.

This class will include both degree-seeking graduate students and practicing professionals. Individuals registering through Professional Development will receive continuing education units - but not academic credit - for the class.
