This course offers strategies for taking the master’s, advanced generalist, or clinical level of the social work licensure exam. Topics focus directly on preparing for the test and include test-taking strategies; assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and intervention strategy; direct and indirect practice; increasing communication, understanding diversity, professional values, ethics, and policies governing service, practice management, and service delivery.
A 200-plus page workbook complete with information outlines and sample practice tests will be sent by US Mail in advance.
This is an interactive synchronous distance learning course via Zoom.

Course Outline
Content Level: Beginner
Target Audiences: Social workers and other mental health professionals looking to take the Master's, Advanced, or Clinical level exams.
Agenda:
- Test Taking Strategy. (Elements of testing strategy will also be reinforced throughout the 2-day course.
- Diagnosis, Assessment, and Treatment Planning in Social Work Practice.
- Models of Psychotherapy, Intervention and Clinical Practice with Individuals, Couples and Families.
- Elements of Therapeutic Communication and Worker/Client Relationships.
- Human Development and Behavior.
- Professional Values, Ethics and Policies Governing Service.
- Effects of Culture, Race, Ethnicity, Sexual Orientation, Gender, Age, and Disability. (Includes information on diversity and this section overlaps with models and DSM-5 as well.)
- Supervision, Administration, and Service Delivery.
- Closure and Relaxation Techniques.
*Two 5-minute breaks and a 1-hour lunch will occur each day.
Learner Outcomes
- Identify how to break down questions and identify keywords and apply Bloom’s taxonomy to how questions are formulated.
- Practice how to take social work practice information and address it in a standardized format.
- Identify, differentiate, and interpret psychosocial history and collateral data information and how it relates to the social work practice setting.
- Review the strategies for clinical assessment and evidence-based practice with individuals who suffer from psychosocial disorders and problems.
- Identify diagnosis, assessment, and practice intervention with mental and behavioral disorders utilizing the DSM-5.
- Recognize and recite the concepts relative to the major theoretical approaches, models, and methods of practice in the field of social work.
- Explore and interpret basic methods and techniques used in social work practice such as the clinical interview, establishing treatment goals and monitoring progress, and addressing specific techniques of clinical practice.
- Review and interpret the NASW Code of Ethics.
- Trace the role of the social worker and how it relates to the helping relationship and cite the responsibility that social workers have to clients and within professional relationships.
- Translate the most common policies and procedures that govern service delivery.
- Recognize the similarities and differences between clinical supervision and consultation.
- Tabulate issues relative to practice management, and managed care agencies.
Course Completion Requirements:
