Preferred registration deadline: September 20th 6 CEUs/CPH units This course is designed for public health and mental health professionals who are working with or treating clients from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender (LGBT) community and wish to deepen their knowledge base. This workshop will differentiate the groups as four distinct communities with unique challenges and attributes. Participants will develop a more nuanced understanding of the language used regarding gender and sexuality, developing an understanding of the way gender binary and cisgender privilege can affect clients and practitioner's thinking. The workshop will provide an opportunity to explore ingrained attitudes about sex, gender, and sexual behavior, increasing your sensitivity and knowledge for working with clients. Issues related to heteronormativity will be explored to increase excellent care and decrease disparities in care to these communities. This workshop satisfies the Illinois licensure requirement of 3 hours in cultural competency. General Admission: $120** Class size is limited to 35. **Discounts on workshop admission are offered to the Brown School’s students, alumni, and field instructors. We also offer a discount to full-time graduate students in other programs and to our Washington University faculty/staff colleagues. No other discounts are available.
