BRWN-010030 - Using GIS for Program Development and Outreach

Preferred registration deadline: August 2nd 6 CEUs/CPH units Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a system for collecting, storing, displaying, and analyzing geographic information. This course will serve as an introduction to applications of GIS in program development and outreach. Participants will be introduced to data identification techniques, indicator prioritization, and the process of "hot-spotting." This course is intended to be a hands-on lab that provides experience in intermediate GIS skills. The lab will begin with an session on identifying primary and secondary indicators, vulnerable populations, and demographic targeting. During the second half of the workshop, participants learn how to use the Community Commons platform, utilizing ArcGIS, to build maps and data visualizations that support program outreach efforts.
