BRWN-010354 - The Birds and the Bees of Sex Therapy: What Every Social Worker Should Know

Preferred registration deadline: February 2nd This workshop will be held in person at the Brown School. 3 CEUs Discussing the topic of sexuality can be distressing and challenging for both social workers and clients, especially when unveiling “taboo” subjects such as sexual difficulties and dysfunctions. While sex therapy requires a specific type of training, social workers should be knowledgeable in brief sex therapy interventions to help clients to the best of their ability. In this workshop, participants will learn various sex therapy intervention strategies to use with clients experiencing sexual dysfunctions or difficulties. We will discuss currently accepted terminology related to human sexuality, learn intervention strategies to address sexual dysfunctions or sexual difficulties clients may report, and explore the theoretical rationales for these interventions. A wide spectrum of human sexuality will be presented including gender-expansive identities, queer relationship structures, and multiple kinks/fetishes/paraphilias. Participants will be presented with various case scenarios during which they will be able to practice the techniques discussed throughout the training.
