BRWN-010351 - Not “Big Kids” and Not “Small Adults”: Understanding Adolescent Development

Preferred registration deadline: October 27th This workshop will be held in person at the Brown School. 3 CEUs Adolescence, the developmental period between childhood and adulthood, is a time of remarkable opportunity and growth. Between the ages of 10 and 25, young people are forging their sense of who they are and who they aspire to be, and are learning to make decisions, manage emotions, and create deeper relationships with peers and adults. They are also developing interests and meaningful goals that will shape their adult lives. When young people have opportunities to explore new terrains within supportive adult relationships, they develop the skills they need to become healthy, happy, contributing adults. Parents, caregivers, educators, youth program staff, faith-based youth workers, and other supportive adults must understand the unique developmental needs of adolescents to effectively engage with them, to provide developmentally appropriate interventions, and to enact policy and practice changes that ensure that all young people can access the opportunities of adolescence. Participants in this workshop will leave with a deep understanding of the domains of adolescent development and effective strategies to support the healthy development of young people in their lives.
