BRWN-010350 - Understanding Environmental Racism and Working Towards Environmental Justice

Preferred registration deadline: November 3rd This workshop will be conducted in a virtual Zoom meeting format 3 CEUs Environmental inequalities threaten the health and well-being of low-income communities, including communities of color that are on the frontlines in the fight against climate change, air and water pollution, food security, and many other urgent environmental problems. Like many urban areas, the St. Louis region faces egregious social, environmental, and health disparities. In this workshop, we will critically examine the role of racism and other structural policy inequalities that produce unequal environments and how those unequal environments contribute to public health disparities in St. Louis and beyond. We will explore the use of public health data, policy options, case studies, and currently available resources that allow for evidence-based solutions for more racially equitable outcomes and improved population health. This workshop meets the Missouri & Illinois social work licensure requirement for 3 hours of continuing education in Diversity/Equity/Cultural Competency.
