BRWN-010348 - Addressing the Invisibility and Criminalization of Black Girls: A Trauma Informed Approach

Preferred registration deadline: October 13th This workshop will be held in person at the Brown School 3 CEUs Implicit biases and discriminatory practices in society and schools often make Black girls feel invisible. At the same time, these biases and practices also lead to the criminalization of Black girls, resulting in higher rates of suspension, sexual exploitation, and encounters with the juvenile justice system. In this workshop, participants will learn about the history and impact of different kinds of stereotypes and discipline practices that victimize Black girls. The developmental consequences of these traumas will be explored. Participants will walk away with culturally responsive strategies and trauma-informed interventions to help Black girls heal. This workshop meets the Missouri & Illinois social work licensure requirement for 3 hours of continuing education in diversity/cultural competency/humility.
