Sexuality is an essential part of life that inevitably shows up in therapy sessions. Additionally, cultural beliefs and norms influence sexuality and impact both the client and clinician in a therapeutic relationship. However, many clinicians have little training or education in human sexual behavior, which may make them less adept at helping clients feel comfortable talking about sex without feeling judged. This workshop will enhance clinicians’ cultural competency and knowledge around sexuality. We will discuss core values and beliefs that may impact discussing sexuality, gain insights and tools for understanding the meaning of sexual problems in specific cultural contexts, and review best practices for supporting clients who present sexual questions and concerns in therapy.

This workshop meets the licensure requirement for 3 hours of continuing education in diversity/cultural competency/humility.
