BRWN-010031 - Engaging Men in the Therapeutic Process

Preferred registration deadline: November 29th 3 CEUs As clients in therapy, men often feel at a disadvantage in a realm that focuses on relationship, connection and verbal communication, along with the identification and expression of emotion. This workshop combines lecture, discussion and clinical examples to highlight key aspects of a male-sensitive approach to individual, group and couples therapy. We will discuss the male role conflict in seeking and engaging in therapy, along with concepts of Masculine Gender Role Stress and Normative Male Alexithymia as they apply to the challenges men often face in the therapy process. Participants will learn strategies for ‘getting men in the door’ and engaging men once therapy has been initiated. How the gender of the therapist impacts the male-sensitive therapy process will also be highlighted.
