3 CEs

Statistics tell us a sobering story about children’s risk of self-harming behaviors, and assessment tools can provide valuable insights about an individual child’s risk of a suicide attempt. But how does a school social worker (or other community-based professional) best approach day-to-day interactions when providing service to a child known to be at risk?

This workshop will provide an overview of assessment tools currently in use. We will discuss strategies for effectively partnering with the person who is the primary mental health provider when your role is not that of a therapist. Participants will explore the importance of having a protocol in place for when a tragic event (of any sort) occurs inside your facility or otherwise impacts your community. Best practices for communicating with and supporting your team will also be discussed.

This class meets the requirement for at least 2 CEs in suicide continuing education each licensure period.

General Admission: $60**
