Registration deadline: May 24th
This course will be held in person at the Brown School with asynchronous work in Canvas/WUEx. Access to a computer/laptop with internet access is required.
15 CEUs/CPH units
In public health and other social sciences, research is conducted by working in a biased system using data from human beings living in a biased society. As a result, how we measure, collect, manage, analyze, report, disseminate, and implement data all have the potential to reinforce existing biases.
In this course, we will focus on critically thinking about AI data practices that have the potential to amplify rather than reduce the racial, economic, gender, age, and other biases found in society today. Participants will learn to build sophisticated ethical reasoning skills to address and recommend concepts of right and wrong conduct, with the transparency and defensibility of actions and decisions driven by AI concerning data in general and personal data in particular. Participants should bring a computer to each class session.
This course meets the licensure requirement for 3 hours of continuing education in ethics.
Class size is limited to 25.
$650 General Admission
$450 Non-profit/Education/Government Employees
This class will include both degree-seeking graduate students and practicing professionals. Individuals registering through Professional Development will receive continuing education units - but not academic credit - for the class.
