Social workers often find themselves navigating tricky situations, and in these difficult moments they are taught to consult the Code of Ethics as a way of guiding their decision-making. However, what should social workers do when the values outlined in the Code are in conflict?

This presentation will explore how to use the NASW Code of Ethics as a tool for navigating ethical dilemmas. Nigel will offer an in-depth review of the NASW Code of Ethics, highlighting all six ethical principles and six ethical standards. He will discuss various ethical decision-making models, focusing on the key components between them. Case study examples will explore common ethical dilemmas in social work and show how to navigate those dilemmas using the NASW Code of Ethics and the ethical decision-making models together.
