In this course, members will explore Art Nouveau, an international style that flourished during the Belle Époque, influencing fine arts, architecture and decorative arts. As a reaction against academicism, historicism and eclecticism, Art Nouveau embraced forms inspired by nature, characterized by dynamism, movement and the innovative use of modern materials like iron, glass and concrete. Members will examine the rise and development of this captivating movement in cities and countries across the globe, including Brussels, Barcelona, Munich, Darmstadt, Berlin, Vienna, Prague, The Netherlands, Scandinavia, New York, Chicago, Italy and Russia.
