In this course, members will explore the experiences of the "Poor Bloody Infantry" (PBI) during World War I, drawing on personal letters, official archives, other primary resources and lesser-known literature. These sessions will examine the war through a balance of accepted historical narratives, official documents and personal family histories, offering a unique perspective on the soldiers' lives in the trenches. Members will reflect on the lasting impact of WWI, especially for those with relatives who endured the war. This exploration will highlight the enduring shadow of the conflict, which can still be felt in modern issues.  Required text: Some Desperate Glory, Edwin
