A well-crafted strategy engages stakeholders, aligns with organizational values, and drives meaningful outcomes. In this workshop, we will unlock the essentials of an effective strategic planning process that is engaging, real, and can help bring organizations to the next level. We will explore the fundamentals of an engaging and effective strategic process, and provide tools to have an inclusive, thoughtful, and energizing strategy process with outcomes that are measurable and satisfying.

This is an in-person workshop that will be held on Washington University’s Danforth Campus. The exact location and direction will be emailed to registered participants before the course date.

Course Outline

Content Level: Beginner

Target Audiences: Non-profit leaders and professionals engaged in or new to strategy development 

Agenda:

  • Welcome and introductions – 10 min
  • Exploring the need for strategy - 45 min
  • Discussion - 30 minutes
  • Doing the work – 1 hour
    • Info gathering
    • Roles and responsibilities
    • Process
    • Developing metrics
  • Final Strategy tool and implementation – 20
  • Q & A – 10 minutes

*A 5-minute break will occur approximately halfway through the workshop.  

Learner Outcomes

  • Participants will be able to describe the purpose of organizational strategy
  • Participants will be able to summarize strategic planning and the interactions between board, staff, and community in this process
  • Participants will be able to identify the processes in a strategic plan
  • Participants will be able to summarize the use of a strategic plan in ongoing operations and governance

Course Completion Requirements:

The Brown School is an approved provider of Social Work CEs in Missouri and Illinois. To earn credit, attendees must arrive at the scheduled time, attend the entire course, and complete an online course evaluation. You may still qualify for partial Social Work Missouri and Illinois CEs if you miss part of the training. CE Certificates will be available online within 10 business days of course completion by visiting your learner profile at https://ce.wustl.edu/portal/logon.do?method=load&parentSite=brown.  You will receive an email notification with specific instructions for accessing the online certificate when it is available.
