Learn how to prepare a foundation grant proposal by receiving coaching and then practicing writing your own proposal. Developed from a foundation's perspective, you will gain insights into how grantmakers operate, including tips on building an effective relationship with a funder before and after submitting your application. We will discuss the trends in foundation charitable giving, the different types of foundations, and how to research their interests and priorities. You will also practice the writing skills necessary to capture the attention of a potential foundation funder.

Class size is limited to 25.

This class will include both degree-seeking graduate students and practicing professionals. Individuals registering through Professional Development will receive continuing education units - but not academic credit - for the class.

Learner Outcomes

  • Learn how to emphasize strengths, foster collaboration, and align shared visions to create meaningful connections that lead to support.
  • Develop a comprehensive strategy for engaging with grant makers, focusing on best practices for building rapport and maintaining communication both before the application is submitted and after a funding decision is made.
  • Apply professional writing techniques and insights from the grant maker's perspective to draft a persuasive foundation proposal that clearly articulates impact and captures a reviewer's attention.

Course Completion Requirements:

The Brown School is an approved provider of Social Work CEs in Missouri and Illinois. To earn credit, attendees must arrive at the scheduled time, attend the entire course, and complete an online course evaluation. You may still qualify for partial Social Work Missouri and Illinois CEs if you miss part of the training. CE Certificates will be available online within 10 business days of course completion by visiting your learner profile at https://ce.wustl.edu/portal/logon.do?method=load&parentSite=brown.  You will receive an email notification with specific instructions for accessing the online certificate when it is available.
