Chile’s Nobel Laureate poets, Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda, were both world wanderers and prominent international figures. Yet each retained a deep sense of connection with Chilean and, more broadly, Latin American land, peoples, and culture. Each found a distinctive voice to express the Latin American natural world and its effect on Latin America’s people and themselves. Through selected readings and discussion, we will explore how the extravagant landscape of Chile helped shape two powerful and distinctive poetic voices.
