BRWN-0100091 - Beyond Crisis: Supporting LGBTQIA+ Clients Experiencing Suicidality & Self-Harm
Preferred registration deadline: March 5th
3 CEs
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual + (LGBTQIA) individuals may experience unique stressors, including stigma, discrimination, rejection, and barriers to affirming care, that can contribute to psychological distress, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm.
In this workshop, we will move beyond a crisis-only approach to explore affirming, trauma-informed strategies for supporting LGBTQIA+ clients experiencing suicidal thoughts and non-suicidal self-injury. We will examine the roles of shame, avoidance, and escapism, explore relevant clinical frameworks, and consider how connection, autonomy, and empowerment can be incorporated into suicide prevention and intervention.
Through clinical application, participants will explore both macro and micro approaches, integrating cognitive, somatic, and intrapersonal strategies that can help clients strengthen emotional regulation, increase internal and relational safety, and develop alternatives for responding to overwhelming distress.
This is an interactive synchronous distance learning course via Zoom. This workshop meets the requirement for suicide continuing education each licensure period.
General Admission: $65**
