Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) create complex challenges for both individuals living with dementia and the family members who care for them. As cognitive, functional, behavioral, and psychological symptoms evolve over time, healthcare professionals and community providers play a vital role in promoting quality of life, safety, and well-being.

This workshop provides an overview of the progression of ADRD, including common functional changes and behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). Participants will explore factors that contribute to behavioral symptoms and learn evidence-informed pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies to support individuals living with dementia. Through practical examples and discussion, participants will develop strategies for partnering with families, reducing caregiver burden, and connecting individuals and caregivers with resources that support positive outcomes throughout the dementia care journey.

This class meets the IL requirement of at least 1 hour of continuing education on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. This is an interactive synchronous distance learning course via Zoom.
