Rich in literary realism, characterization and historical details, Middlemarch vividly tells the stories of characters from every social class in the English provincial town of Middlemarch from 1829-1832.  Set during an era of struggles for social, medical, political, and religious reforms and advances in technology, protagonists Dorothea Brooke and Dr. Tertius Lydgate are both idealistic advocates for reform and progress.  Join us to read and discuss; volunteers may choose to give short reports. Film clips from the 1994 BBC Middlemarch miniseries will be shown in class.
