A good poem always tells you something you already know, but in a new way, as shown in the work of  Mary Oliver, Edna St. Vincent Millay and Linda Pastan, and a broader range of work by poets whose work is less well-known, but not for long; for example, Kay Ryan, Ted Kooser, Tracy K. Smith, Charlotte Parsons, and Annie Lighthart. In class, we try to tease out each poem's strengths.  The touch is light.  We don't spend a lot of time on any one poem.  Discussion is encouraged.  A manual is required for this course at a cost of $12. Note: No class on 1/15.
